Chesterton’s Wisdom

“The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes,” G.K. Chesterton once wrote. “The business of the Conservatives” he added, “is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected.”

Audacious though it is to disagree with the brilliant Chesterton, I think he got it only half right. The real business of conservatives is – or at least ought to be – to make the case for why the progressives are mistaken and to point out the damage their mistaken ideas are inflicting on our society.
